From Experienced Makeup Artists: Pro Techniques to Conceal Leg Veins and Marks
Visible veins and redness on the legs get in the way of a smooth, even-toned look. Professional makeup artists, however, have mastered concealing techniques, so they cover imperfections on the legs flawlessly. These techniques include prepping the skin for makeup, evening out skin tone, using spray-on stockings, and making the makeup last as you finish your look.
Start with Color Correcting
Color correcting means evening out your skin tone. Stubborn scars, redness, bruises, and visible veins on your legs can be concealed with professional makeup. A green corrector helps you cover redness. A yellow corrector neutralizes bruises and visible veins. An orange corrector, meanwhile, conceals scars you have had for a long time.
If you want your color correctors to have the effect you're after, we recommend applying them right where the imperfections are. When using a sponge, you can blend the product out in circular motions.
Layered Application: Natural but Effective Coverage
Layered application can make your legs look both flawless and natural. But how?
- After applying a color corrector to your legs based on the color of the imperfection, you can move on to leg foundation or spray-on stockings.
- Since the product comes in spray form, we recommend spraying it from about 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) away. Make sure to apply a thin layer.
- Once the first coat has dried, you can move on to the second. Apply the second coat the same way, as a thin layer.
- If your imperfections are still showing, you can spray a thin layer focused on those areas.
- Finally, protect your leg makeup with a setting spray or a makeup setting powder.
Lock It In with Setting Powder
Keeping your leg makeup in place all day without it rubbing off on your clothes matters for a clean, polished look. With setting powder, you lock the product in place and prevent transfer. Especially in summer, since you sweat in the intense heat, the chance of the product transferring is higher. It also helps prevent sweat-related shine, giving you a matte, natural look.
Why Your Brush and Sponge Choice Matters After Spraying
Products made for leg makeup usually come in spray form. The spray format makes application effortless and, with the right technique, spreads evenly. There are two more tools that help the product even out your skin tone: a brush and a sponge. Choosing the right sponge and brush makes a big difference in concealing imperfections.
A sponge helps the product melt into your legs. Sponges made for the body are larger and have a wider surface than those used for the face. On the kneecaps and ankles, it can be hard to spread the product evenly. A sponge fills in fine lines, especially in these areas, and helps even out your skin tone.
A brush, on the other hand, spreads the product evenly without leaving streaks. To blend foundation on your legs, we recommend using a large brush with an angled tip.
Touch-Up Tips: Refresh Your Makeup During the Day
You can touch up the makeup on your face during the day. But what about your leg makeup? You can refresh your leg makeup with the right techniques, too. Especially if you have concealed veins on your legs, you may find yourself checking your legs all the time. Here are our step-by-step touch-up tips for your leg makeup:
- You can tell your leg makeup needs a touch-up when your legs start to sweat and oil builds up on the skin. Use a clean tissue to remove excess oil and sweat. Instead of wiping your leg completely with the tissue, gently blot away the sweat and oil.
- Bring your foundation with you so you can reapply.
- Carry a brush and sponge with you.
- Finally, use a setting product.
